“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12

So, you have faith in Christ. You believe he is Lord, and you have devoted your life to him as his disciple. Well, here is a commandment from your King: “Love your brothers and sisters with the same love with which I love you.” As I tell kids at the church, the world uses love in a bunch of different and confusing ways. I love my wife. I love my mom. I love tacos. There’s a difference between how I love my wife, and how I love tacos. So we must think about what Christ means when he says love to obey this command. Luckily, he points to himself as our example. How did he show us love? Jesus Christ accepted a humiliating death to spare us the Wrath of God. You cannot find a more extreme example of love. At the very least, he’s commanding us to be deeply concerned about the well-being of our fellow Christians; to work hard and wisely to serve their interests. So watch and act to love one another, as Christ has loved you.

Father, You have shown me true love. Your Son has commanded me to love in the same way. But, this is easier said than done. I know it will take time to love like Christ loves, but with Your Spirit’s help, and your Son’s example in my heart, I trust I will one day obey this awesome command.
