The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evildoers assail me
to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
it is they who stumble and fall.
3 Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident. – Psalm 27:1-3
I love how this doesn’t say that God will teach me how to pull myself up by my own bootstraps and enable me to become the stronghold of my life in our battle against Satan, his lies, accusations, and devil armies. No. It says: “The LORD, Yahweh, IS The Stronghold of my life.” Jesus. He is The Stronghold we live in. He is our Home where we meet with our Heavenly Father daily. He is The New Temple where The Presence of God is found. He is The Perfect Love that drives out all fear (1 John 4:18). We don’t have to be afraid anymore. The gates of Hell will not be able to prevent Jesus from taking us with Him over the walls to rescue the broken, hurting, and lost (Matthew 16:18; Luke 11:20-23).
God, thank You for Your Son Jesus, who IS our Mighty Fortress in the storm. Calm us. Comfort us. Become our moment-by-moment strength as we seek to trust You and follow You wherever You are taking us. We love You. Thank You Jesus for dying on The Cross for us as our Perfect Love who drives out all our fears from our fragile souls. We would be nothing without You, because You are everything. Amen.
