Reaching Out in Mercy, September 9, 2017

by Chuck Hetzler

“Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear– hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.”  Jude 1:22-23

It is difficult to know how to help people come closer to Christ, especially when they aren’t sure if they want to do so. How do we reach out to a skeptic? Do we argue or engage in respectful dialogue? How do we serve an addict? Do we condemn or sympathize? Examples can be multiplied. In every situation, our primary goal is to draw them closer to Christ and out of the danger of unbelief and sin, but to do so knowing our own need for mercy.

Father, Help us to keep loving and obeying You completely and to help others do the same. Show us mercy as we show mercy to others. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
