Life at Jesus’ Feet, Monday, August 20, 2018

by Josh Vahle

1 And getting into a boat Jesus crossed over and came to his own city. And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” But Jesus, seeing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? But that you may see that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.  – Matthew 9:1-8

Jesus went home.  Some people carried a paralyzed man and laid him at Jesus’ feet.  Instead of healing him right then, Jesus, because he could see by their actions that these people really believed He had the Power to help their friend, he said to the paralyzed man who was there to be healed: “Be filled with Hope and Courage and Energy for life, child of The Living God, for I forgive all your sins against God, right now!”  And check this out, the power-holders of the Jewish religion said: “This fraud lunatic carpenter pretending to be a Rabbi like us has just claimed to be Yahweh, the God and Creator of all things!  Only God can forgive people their sins against Him!” Jesus saw this, he read the situation perfectly, and he gently challenged them: “Why are you thinking thoughts of rebellion against God in your hearts?  I AM The Human Being foretold and seen in Daniel’s Vision, you know, chapter 7.  Its not a big deal for Me to use My Divine Power to forgive or heal—same to Me, both easy tasks—I can snap My Fingers and command either to happen any time I want. Watch.  I’ll prove it.”  And He said to the man brought by his friends on the mat who was watching and listening: “Hey! Get up now!  Pick up that mat you’re lying on and go home to your family.  You’re healed!”  And he did!!!!!  When everyone saw this, they were overwhelmed with fear and wonder and amazement.  And they sang and said Great Things about God, because He had given His Power to human beings, to Jesus.  They couldn’t stop talking about it.

Jesus, thank You for dying to forgive us.  The cross was not easy for You to endure.  Thank You for Your great love, to love us so well when it cost You so much.  We give our week into Your Strong Hands, because we are weak, because we belong to You, and because You want what is best for us…because You are our Best Friend.  Please break through our roof so we can begin live life At Your Feet more often and more fully.  The safest location in the whole Universe is humble and waiting and resting At Your Feet, Jesus.  Whatever it takes, please carry us and lay us down at Your Beautiful Feet of Good News on the mat of Your Grace by Your Holy Spirit. And there, please speak to us exactly what we need to hear most from You.  Speak healing into our lives exactly how You think we need to be healed.  Give us trust like these men had.  Empower and use us to carry others and lay them at Your Feet in prayer this week.  And when you tell us to take up our mat and go home, enable us to obey Your Command.  Amen.
