Choosing to Serve, September 5, 2017

by Chuck Hetzler

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:29-30

A yoke is a symbol of labor. It was put on two animals, like oxen, to pull a plow. Jesus calls us to work. He calls us to serve Him. Yet He is such a gracious Master that serving as Jesus’ disciple is not as hard as it sounds. It turns out that the work feels easy and light, even though we first thought it would be hard and burdensome. If we give Him our life, we will find it.

Dear Lord, I surrender my own desires to serve You. I trust that there is no better choice I can make. Amen.
